Remembering John J. Weir

John J. Weir, age 92 passed away on February 17, 2021. John was born in Lowell and educated in Lawrence. Mr. Weir was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1946. He retired from Bay State Gas Company in 1982 after 30 years of service. Since his retirement, he has worked for the Massachusetts Chiropractic Society as an Administrative Assistant.

Mr. Weir served his country proudly in Italy during WWII. He served as vice president of Community Services for the Greater Lawrence Chamber of Commerce in addition to chairing the Energy Task Force, Legislative and Educational Committees and the Downton Lawrence Task Force. He served on the Board of Directors of the New England Gas Association as the Chairman of Residential Sales. Mr. Weir was the past president of the Lawrence Lions Club and the past president of the Elgasco Credit Union. He was a director on the Methuen Board of Trade and was the past president of the Board of Directors of the Nevins Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Weir was a member of the Professional Ski Association of America for 25 years as a certified ski instructor and a charter member of the Cedardale Tennis Club of Bradford. He was also a ski instructor at Ski Bradford for many years.

John was the beloved husband of the late Mary (Lindsay) Weir. He was the devoted father of Kathleen Allen and her husband Tony, Patricia Tgibedes and her husband James, Susan Weir and Annmarie Seldon and her husband Michael. John was the cherished grandfather of James P. Tgibedes, John S. Tgibedes, Mary E. Tgibedes, Sophia Alexandra Seldon and Isabella Mary Seldon. He was the dear brother of the late Barbara Koslowski, the late Eleanor Potvin and the late Eli Weir.

Friends and guests are invited to call on Saturday, February 20, 2021 from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St. Methuen. A funeral service will be held immediately following calling hours, beginning promptly at 12:00 Noon at the funeral home. Interment at a later date. Due to the ongoing global pandemic and government regulations, Facial coverings must be worn and social distancing must be observed to attend the calling hours and funeral service.
